Children’s Services Inspection

What is an inspection?
Inspectors from the Care Inspectorate visit the area where you live and look at the care and support provided for children and young people. They want to find out what is working well and what needs to improve. Some of the Inspectors will be young people aged 18 to 26 with experience of care services.
The Inspectors will have a good look and will want to know what you think. Your views are important. You can give your feedback using this device.
East Lothian are working with the Care Inspectorate to find out if this is a good way of getting the views of young people.

What is the Care Inspectorate?
The Care Inspectorate is responsible for ensuring that all services for children and young people in Scotland provide high quality care. If a service is not good enough they can make sure it is improved. The Care Inspectorate can say what needs to happen to make things better.

Your views matter
The Inspectors want to hear from care experienced children and young people and those who need support and extra help to keep safe. They want to know about how you have been feeling (some people call this your ‘wellbeing’) and your experience of the services working with you and your family.
‘Care experienced’ means children and young people currently or previously ‘looked after’, living at home, receiving short periods of respite, in kinship care, residential care and foster care.

Your views are confidential
The answers you give will be stored together with those of other children and young people. The Inspectors will be able to see what you have said: what’s good and what could be better. You are not asked for information that would identify you. This means the Inspectors cannot contact you about any feedback you give. If giving your feedback raises concern for you, you can say that you want to be contacted, and give information about how you can be contacted.

What happens to what you say?
The Inspectors will use the results of the survey to find out what is working well and where things can be improved. The Inspectors write a report and produce a video saying what is working well and what needs to improve. If the Inspectors find things that could be done better they will say so and say what needs to happen.
The information will also inform the Children’s Strategic Partnership of the things that need to improve for ‘care experienced’ children and young people in East Lothian.
