About us

The Viewpoint Organisation was established in 1999 to promote the engagement and participation of children and young people in decisions that affect them. The founders of the organisation who are still actively involved in the organisation have over 20 years research and practice experience in this area of activity and provide a unique approach.

The Viewpoint methodology combines the use of Audio Computer Assisted Self Interviewing and reflective casework to help children and young people gain a better understanding of their experiences and aspirations and be more able to contribute their views to individual plans and programmes of work.

Viewpoint ACASI was first developed in 1994 in order to improve the engagement of children and young people in the completion of an instrument developed by the founders to measure children’s perceptions of service quality. Social Welfare organisations later adapted the approach for use in the assessment, review and planning process for children in out of home care combining service quality questions with questions relating to the assessment of children and young people.

The Viewpoint methodology has been adopted by social welfare organisations in the UK and Republic of Ireland, in Australia, Canada. The application has been extended, in addition to children and young people in out of home care, to Care Leavers, those subject to child protection plans and interventions those involved with youth offending services and to the wellbeing of children and young people in school.

Viewpoint Associates come from a variety of backgrounds and countries enhance the experience and expertise available to the Viewpoint Organisation and the many organisations using the approach. The Associates and colleagues in different organisations help produce the information available at the Learning Hub.
